GALATIANS 4 v. 8 – 11
‘However, at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods.
But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again?
You observe days and months and seasons and years,
I fear for you, that perhaps I have laboured over you in vain.’
For Paul, there is a real risk that all he had seen the gospel achieve would be undermined by this ‘turning back’ to the prison walls of legalism, and a self-righteous ritualism. He feared that the church was changing direction, going off course disastrously.
As God’s covenanted people, let’s keep praying for the discernment, courage and determination to keep on the path He has laid our for us, keeping in step with His Spirit, not veering to the left or to the right.
PRAYER:
I have decided to follow Jesus –
no turning back, no turning back;
The world behind me, the cross before me –
no turning back, no turning back;
Though none go with me, still I will follow –
no turning back, no turning back.
AMEN.
CHALLENGE:
Choose to be intentional, disciplined, discerning about the path you are on –
‘seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness, and all else will be added to you’.
